## Job Content

### Job overview

The post will be based across NUH campuses or our partner outsourcing units and is designed to acquire specialist advanced endoscopy training and support the activities of the endoscopy and gastroenterology department. The post-holder will work alongside a variety of consultant gastroenterologists and GI surgeons and will be responsible to the clinical leads in endoscopy and gastroenterology.

This is a one-year post specifically intended for registrars approaching their CCST or immediate post CCST wishing to expand their endoscopy and research experience. Opportunities include training in ERCP (including advanced imaging and therapeutics, e.g. cholangioscopy) and EUS (including interventional EUS), and as such it is most suited to those reaching the end of their specialist training in gastroenterology.

Candidate must have achieved competency in diagnostic upper GI endoscopy. Weekly attendance and presentation at the MDTs will be expected with interaction with colleagues from radiology, surgery, pathology, oncology and palliative care providing excellent exposure to complete patient management as well and upskilling in endoscopy.

As well as the main duties described in the job description, The successful candidates will contribute to the out of hours gastroenterology rotas covering acute upper and lower GI bleeding and consults on GI and liver in-patient queries, supported by a consultant on call rota.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In addition to the key job responsibilities detailed in this job description all employees at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust are expected to comply with the general duties detailed below:

The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.

### Governance and Audit

Each fellow is expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, attending monthly M&M meetings, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Each directorate has a Consultant Clinical Governance lead.

### Teaching

Both main campuses of the Trust are major centres for undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

The Trust works to ensure the best possible placements and training for both undergraduates and junior doctors and to ensure consultant trainers & teachers are developed and supported. The Trust facilitates this through agreeing appropriate job plans, a clear framework for the delivery of medical education, and the opportunity to enhance clinical and teaching skills through Continuing Professional Development.

### Research

The Trust has extremely close links with Nottingham University, and has academic departments in the majority of its clinical specialties. There are University and Trust research facilities. The Trust has a research strategy and management framework which aligns its funding for research with the research and innovations activities it supports. Fellows who wish to undertake research require the approval of the Trust R&I Department and relevant ethical approval, and must adhere to the National Framework for Research Governance.

### Clinical Skills/Experience

**Essential**

- Intended for registrars approaching their CCST or immediate post CCST wishing to expand their endoscopy and research experience JAG logbook and workplace- based assessments indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures

### Professional Qualifications/Development

**Essential**

- MRCP or equivalent European Specialty Certificate Exam in gastroenterology & Hepatology or equivalent UK (CCT) or UK (NTN) in Gastroenterology/ Surgery

### Personal Skills/Qualities/ Practical Requirements

**Essential**

- Able to work flexibly in a changing health service Able to use the Trust’s IT support systems Demonstrate good organisation skills Demonstrate ability to organise own learning and time.

**Desirable**

- Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). If the Primary Medical Qualification including clinical contact was not carried out using English, applicants must have an academic IELTS score of at least 7.5 in each domain and overall, or demonstrate equivalence by providing evidence of English language skills
