### Job overview

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) role is at the forefront of Acute Medicine with non-medical practitioner’s crossing professional boundaries, undertaking traditional medical roles and leading the way for inter-professional practice.

The ACP will be able to assess and treat varied clinical cases, having advanced skills to assess the patient with a differentiated or undifferentiated clinical diagnosis. Advanced communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills will be used to initial assess and provide on-going patient care.

The post holder will provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service and will demonstrate advanced skills and competencies and ensure that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment.

### Main duties of the job

Working within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines, the ACP exercises independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of acute medical patients. They work collaboratively within the multiprofessional team and support the education and development of both nursing, medical and allied-health professionals.

The Acute Medicine ACP will be required to work a shift pattern to support a 7 days a week, 12 hour service across the different areas of the Acute and Emergency Department.

*Consideration will be given to applicants who do not yet possess the relevant qualifications but hold significant experience within clinical area. Must be willing to work towards them- banding (Band 6-8a) would be subject to Level 7 qualifications and level of supervision required.  Progression to Band 8a is achieved upon successful completion/attainment of full MSc.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant relevant post-registration experience within the speciality
- Competent in the planning and managing of complete clinical episodes of care for all patients; working autonomously
- Experience of teaching at informal and formal level
- Able to role model and lead whilst working independently and within a team
- Participated in research, audit and developed service improvement strategies

**Desirable**

- Experience in delivering service improvement
- Proven leadership skills

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Degree Level, NMC or HCPC registered
- Masters diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice/Health Assessment or equivalent post-graduate study Level 7*
- MSc Advanced Practice/ willingness to complete MSc Advanced Practice
- Independent Prescriber*
- ALS provider**

**Desirable**

- Teaching/ Assessment and mentoring qualification
- IRMER Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations certificate
- Portfolio of evidence in line with speciality
- Leadership course

### Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

**Essential**

- Demonstrable clinical skills in speciality
- Advanced knowledge of the range of presentations, diagnoses & current management options within the speciality area
- Evidence of planning & organisational skills
- Completion/ working towards/willingness to complete speciality portfolio (where required and if indicated nationally).
- Demonstrates up to date theoretical and clinical knowledge and expertise of Advanced Practice
- Evidence of being able to work in partnership across organisational boundaries, delegating and referring as appropriate
- Effective communication at all levels & ability to manage complex situations
- Awareness of local and national issues relating to healthcare provision. Awareness of current professional issues

**Desirable**

- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
