Our Microbiology laboratory provides a full microbiological service for the diagnosis of infection including bacteriology, serology, parasitology, TB and molecular sections. We consist of over 50 members of staff and working closely with our other ESNEFT Microbiology laboratory situated in Colchester, we perform a wide repertoire of both traditional and automated testing. Our vision is to deliver an innovative, high-performing service that is focussed on high quality results for effective patient care. Join us to develop your career and help us achieve our vision. ### Main duties of the job - Responsible as lead Biomedical Scientist for a specialist area - Manages and coordinates the day to day activities of the team - Leads on service improvement - Processes specialist investigations and responsible for standard and quality of results - Provides specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales. - Provides specialist service e.g. training, advanced trouble shooting, problem solving for specialist area. - To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 day per week service. - The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
