### Job overview

Join the Acute Rescue Team (ART) at NUH, delivering rapid, senior support to acutely unwell and deteriorating patients across the City hospital Campus. You will provide out-of-hours clinical leadership and cross-specialty support on a dedicated 1:5 ART rota alongside daytime hours working clinically in the Specialty Receiving Unit.

The role offers an 80% clinical / 20% leadership split, combining:

- Daytime work in the Specialty Receiving Unit
- A 1:5 out-of-hours rota (Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday 16:30–02:30 shifts)
- Key involvement in the Hospital 24 service

Alongside frontline care, you’ll develop your leadership skills through teaching, quality improvement, and service development projects, with dedicated support to design and lead your own initiatives.

### Main duties of the job

Post holders will be expected to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge, participate in audits, attend departmental meetings, and contribute to training others.

The role supports progression towards independent Registrar-level practice, with opportunities to:

- Develop expertise in managing acutely unwell patients
- Gain broad clinical experience across medical conditions
- Build a competitive CV for specialty training
- Enhance procedural, communication, leadership, and time-management skills
- Develop your own leadership and management projects which can include teaching, QiP's etc.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will hold at least part 1 of MRCP, ideally full MRCP and have at least 12 months of NHS experience working at CT level as a minimum.

You will have a minimum of four years of post graduate experience including a broad range of experience in clinical medicine in an acute inpatient setting.

This role will support you:

- To increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available at all times
- To build upon postgraduate clinical experience To develop further expertise in the management of the acutely deteriorating patient
- To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions
- To build a strong CV in advance of an application for speciality training
- To master a number of procedural techniques
- To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues
- To develop skills of management and leadership

To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Broad range of experience in clinical medicine in an acute inpatient setting
- Evidence of completion of key competencies equivalent to at least CT level
- Minimum of 4 years post graduate experience
- Minimum of 12 months NHS experience of at least CT level work
- Experience of working out of hours with limited support

**Desirable**

- Previous experience in a leadership role and/or supporting the delivery of a leadership project

### Training and Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP (UK) Part 1
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- ALS certified

**Desirable**

- Full MRCP

### Analytical and Judgement skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate understanding of importance of Audit and Research
- Good knowledge of the NHS healthcare system including education, research, service provision, regulation, career structures, medical politics and ethical issues.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of publications/presentations/prizes in quality improvement or audit
- Leadership skills gained within the NHS or elsewhere
