### Are you passionate about improving the experience of people living with dementia?

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to join Garner Ward as an Activity Coordinator within our newly named Living Well Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in enhancing the quality of life of patients receiving care on our acute dementia ward.

Working alongside an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team, you will help create a therapeutic, stimulating, and meaningful environment where patients can continue to engage in activities that matter to them, maintain their independence, and feel valued as individuals.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

### Main duties of the job

The Living Well Team aims to support patients to live as well as possible with dementia through meaningful, person-centred care. As an Activity Coordinator, you will work directly with patients to develop and deliver a range of activities and interventions that promote wellbeing, engagement, and independence.

You will support patients to take part in meaningful activities tailored to their interests, abilities, and life experiences, helping to reduce isolation and promote positive experiences during their stay on Garner Ward.

### Key Responsibilities

- Plan, organise and deliver meaningful individual and group activities.
- Support patients to maintain everyday living skills and independence where possible.
- Promote social inclusion, engagement, and positive therapeutic interactions.
- Provide holistic support that recognises each person's emotional, spiritual, cultural, and religious needs.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, therapy, medical, and support staff to enhance patient wellbeing.
- Contribute to creating a calm, welcoming, and dementia-friendly ward environment.
- Encourage and support family involvement where appropriate.

## Person Specification

### Skills and Aptitude

**Essential**

- Personal practical or creative skills e.g. craft, music, art, cookery, horticulture
- Ability to use persuasive, motivational and reassurance strategies to build rapport and engage patients in activities.

### Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

**Essential**

- Qualification to level 3 or equivalent experience in relevant subject.
- Experience of providing social and recreational activities in group settings and with individuals

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working in an inpatient environment
- Experience of working with people who have cognitive, physical, learning disability or challenging behaviour.
