**Essential**

- Comprehensive knowledge and application of clinical coding depth of knowledge in performance targets and the key importance for delivery within NHS organisations.
- Ability to analyse and communicate complex issues to clinical and non-clinical staff
- Understand the link between coding and the payment by result process
- Understand the importance of the coding process from a financial perspective

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Extensive knowledge of Clinical Coding policies and protocols
- Excellent knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
- Good understanding of medical terminology

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial clinical coding experience in an acute trust and knowledge of coding a wide range of specialties.
- Experience in identifying data quality errors.
- Experience of leading a team of staff/ particular specialty/ mentoring others

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- IHRIM National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
- A-levels in Science/ Mathematics/ English

**Desirable**

- NHS Digital Clinical Coding Approved Trainer
- IT Training at Intermediate level
