### Job overview

The primary role for the successful candidate will be to join the Anaesthetic Team covering elective theatres, Obstetric anaesthetics, Critical Care, with on-call commitments. The post holder will be expected to have an understanding and awareness of clinical governance and be passionate about patient care and safety. The successful candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing staff in order to provide a complete Anaesthetics Service.

### Main duties of the job

- Deliver obstetric anaesthesia services, including epidural analgesia, labour ward anaesthesia and support for obstetric emergencies.
- Provide anaesthetic care for a range of elective theatre lists across multiple surgical specialties, ensuring safe and effective perioperative management.

- Contribute to the provision of Critical Care services, including the assessment and ongoing management of critically ill patients.
- Participate in the on-call rota, providing out-of-hours anaesthetic and critical care support as required.
- Work closely with consultants, trainees, ODPs, nursing staff and wider MDT colleagues to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical governance, including incident reporting, audit, quality improvement and adherence to local and national guidelines.
- Attend departmental teaching, training and simulation activities, and support the clinical development of junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Promote and uphold patient safety at all times, demonstrating sound clinical judgement and evidence-based practice.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards.
- Engage actively in service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Anaesthetic Department.

### Research

**Essential**

- - Evidence of CPD, self-directed learning skills

### Experience & Knowledge

**Essential**

- - 1 year FY2/ Internship by start date or equivalent
- - Recent experience of working within the NHS especially in anaesthesia
- - 12 Months experience of working in the NHS as a doctor
- - Clinical experience and competencies commensurate with those detailed in the ‘New Doctor’ GMC.
- - Able to demonstrate ability to deal with common medical and surgical emergencies
- - Able to demonstrate qualities needed to practice medicine in a multicultural society
- - Able to demonstrate an understanding of the other factors (Psychological and social) which affect clinical work
- - Able to demonstrate the ability to use resources effectively in a clinical environment
- - Able to demonstrate an understanding of the ethical and legal aspects of professional practice
- - Proficient in history taking, physical examination and interpretation skills, assessment for investigation and management

**Desirable**

- - Clinical experience with practical procedures associated with critical care
- - Anaesthetic Experience

### Education & Qualifications

**Essential**

- - Full Registration with the GMC with a license to Practise
- - Current ALS provider certificate
- - Basic Medical Qualification MBChB or equivalent

- - MBBS
- - Further Postgraduate qualifications
