Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is excited to offer a secondment opportunity until 01/07/2027.for experienced and motivated midwives who are passionate about delivering safe, high-quality maternity care and developing their leadership skills.

As a Labour Ward Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in leading the day-to-day operational management of the labour ward, ensuring women and families receive safe, compassionate, and effective care. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your strategic thinking, decision-making, and leadership capabilities within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

### Main duties of the job

As the Labour Ward Coordinator, you will:

Provide visible clinical and operational leadership across the labour ward.

Coordinate the safe running of the unit, balancing activity, capacity, and staffing requirements.

Support and lead the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, woman-centred care.

Monitor clinical acuity and manage patient flow across maternity services.

Escalate risks and concerns appropriately to maintain safety at all times.

Lead safety huddles, handovers, and multidisciplinary discussions.

Support staff development, wellbeing, and professional growth.

Act as a role model for compassionate leadership and excellent maternity care.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience in midwifery - including substantial labour ward experience

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Midwife - with valid NMC registration
- ENB 997/998 or other equivalent teaching qualification
- Educated to post graduate Diploma level/or equivalent
- Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course
- Newborn Life Support (NLS) course
- Mentorship and preceptorship training
- Trained in extended roles (perineal repair, epidural topups, venpuncture, canulation and IV additives, processing PH sampling)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development Fulfilment of all mandatory training including CTG updating, adult resuscitation and MDA training

- Educated to degree level
